It has been most difficult. I just don't seem to be in the right frame of mind, and no ambition (or support) to get back to it.

I have been on the boat, not going to shore, continuously for over a year now. Just as I was planning to do more shore time, the pandemic hit. That curtailed shore time as I can't breath in a mask. Maybe a type of claustrophobia? I remember the plastic Halloween kids masks when I was a kid. I couldn't breath in those, either.

Another road block is the emotional and stressful up and down since Irma. Money's been tight most months, so food purchases are limited to what we can afford. Ever notice the cheap and unhealthy crap is less expensive than the best healthy a store has to offer?

Staying on the boat has, also, messed with my health - especially my circulatory system. No movement, no exercise, no walking, has certainly had its effect of me.

I'm pretty sure, by the time all is said and done, I'll be starting at square one again.

But I won't give up. I just need to carry on.
Carol Hhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08341715515054534228noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4185892098218333543.post-92031596411892334442020-03-11T21:27:00.001-04:002020-03-11T21:27:14.305-04:00It's been a long timeSince Hurricane Irma, I've lost track of my eat-style program, killed my laptop, and life has become a lot more challenging.
But I've got another laptop, and will start my east-style again soon - I hope.Carol Hhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08341715515054534228noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4185892098218333543.post-78180796410532424242018-08-21T13:55:00.001-04:002018-08-21T13:56:00.681-04:00Hmmmm
So, day before yesterday I did a weigh-in on the higi at publix. Pulse and bp normal, weight - 206 lbs. Four pounds less than my last weigh-in on the 4th.
I should be happy about that, but I don't feel as if I lost any weight. In fact, I feel as if I've gained.
I don't know if it's just me, or if the higi machine is not accurate, but I'm not seeing it or feeling it.

Carol Hhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08341715515054534228noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4185892098218333543.post-37164751485966670492018-08-05T12:57:00.001-04:002018-08-05T12:57:56.410-04:00Back!
Betcha wondered what happened to me, huh? Or not.
Well, I went through a bit of a trying time after Irma and in my marriage. I left the Keys and spent 4 months in California. But I'm back now, and rarin' to go.
Yesterday I weighed in for the first time in months. I know after Irma I weighed in at 217. Yesterday, I weighed in at 210. Not too much damage, mostly due to, I think, regularly eating my yogurt with chia, and walking. Now, I need some intense focus to get back on track.
I think there's always drawbacks, stumbles, highs and lows when trying to make some kind of a lifestyle change. These are challenges to embrace. As long as the desire to accomplish is still there, the focus can be recovered.

Carol Hhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08341715515054534228noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4185892098218333543.post-49962959482182123422018-03-12T14:12:00.000-04:002018-08-05T12:41:21.950-04:00Ouch!Yesterday, was Seafood Fest here in the Keys, so Cap and I stopped in for an hour to pick up some of our favorite dip mixes, and have some seafood and a beer. Afterwards, we headed off to the grocery store.
To my surprise, they finally have a higi kiosk that worked (I think they replaced it). After three months of poking into the store to weigh-in and finding the dang machine out of order, I finally contacted higi and "let 'em have it". Especially since the repair guy had been out a few times (according to the Pharma clerk) and couldn't manage to repair it.
And that brings up a pet peeve. Please, please, people. Treat those kiosks with kid gloves. I've seen people sit at them and treat those machines like they're infallible. They aren't. And don't let your kids play on them.
So, to my disappointment. I discovered I had gained 17 pounds since Hurricane Irma. Crap. I know we didn't have good finances, and had to buy what we could afford at the store, but 17? Ugh!
But, things have changed now - our finances are better, and I'm getting over my depression from the drastic changes of Irma. Time to attack.
I'll be cutting out that red meat again, staying away from the processed crud, soda pop, sweets, etc.
Water, 100% juice, my low-fat Choco Milk (portion-controlled, of course) will be my drinks. Fruits and seafood bites will be my snacks. Summer porridge in the morning (or juice), low-cal tuna sandwich (on my Sandwich Thins) and fruit for lunch, and my meal prepped, portion-controlled dinner from R.S. recipes for dinner.
I will use my DAL cards for 1800 calories/day, and I just bought a thighmaster knock-off to help with exercise.
I'm on it again.Carol Hhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08341715515054534228noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4185892098218333543.post-13373980124677241962018-01-04T18:38:00.001-05:002018-01-04T18:38:42.465-05:00More DelaysLiving on a boat, and losing weight can be a challenge at times.
Believe it or not, I'm still not quite back on my Eat-Style program. Just about the time I was ready to begin at 100%, our bank card was compromised. Because we have a complicated way of getting our mail, it has been almost two weeks now.
So, we've been feeding ourselves with as little cash going out as possible. Hopefully, this will end soon, and I'll be back on track again.
I did attempt a weigh-in at the HIGI at the grocery store a few weeks back, but the machine was messed up. It told me I weighed 121 lbs. Yeah....I wish!
I'll be going again for a second attempt once the card comes in.
I am back to my Summer Porridges for breakfast in the morning. That's a plus, as I put my Chia seeds in them. Love my Chia. I think it's one of my weight loss success tools. It helps with the loss, and helps with my health maintenance.
Anyhow, as with the rest of the Country, it is cold here. So, I've been making a lot of cheap, hot comfort food. Carol Hhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08341715515054534228noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4185892098218333543.post-13988419216166085992017-11-09T15:13:00.001-05:002017-11-09T15:13:30.787-05:00I Bet You Were Wondering
So, I bet you were wondering what happened to me.
Well, I'll tell you. An old blow hard, Sea Witch named Irma. Needless to say, my eat-style program, temporarily, went by the wayside.
I'm just now, sort of, getting back to it. Not quite there yet, and I haven't done a weigh-in since before the ole Sea Witch blew through, but I will get one done soon.

Carol Hhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08341715515054534228noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4185892098218333543.post-17870949401268353482017-08-31T15:03:00.001-04:002017-08-31T15:03:45.369-04:00OopsWell, that excitement over 189 was short-lived. I jumped back up to 193. I knew this was going to be a struggle from here on out. I imagine I'll be doing a lot of jumping up and down.
The weather hasn't helped at all. Extreme heat and humidity has kept me on the boat, in front of the fan, and not very active.
We'll see how the next weigh-in goes, as I am doubling my efforts until I get back on track.Carol Hhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08341715515054534228noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4185892098218333543.post-28938068303409258382017-07-29T21:41:00.001-04:002017-07-29T21:42:01.855-04:00Little More Gone
So, two days ago I did another weigh-in at higi. I am now down to 189 with 44 to go. That now makes 60 gone!
Now, I have a bit of complaining to do here, so if you don't want to hear it then stop reading now.
I'm not into health bars, health shakes, or energy drinks. However, Weight Watchers makes this snack called Salted Caramel Brownies. Way overpackaged for just 6 small, square brownies but soft so I could eat them.
Unfortunately, our store discontinued selling them.
Why are all the snack offerings at grocery stores for weight loss always items that are harder than a rock to chew? Everything seems to contain some kind of nut and they all advertise as crunchy. These Corps have no creative or imaginative skills at all.

Carol Hhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08341715515054534228noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4185892098218333543.post-51706820728343069682017-07-17T11:48:00.001-04:002017-07-17T11:48:25.295-04:00Slow Going....But GoingWell, last time I weighed in was at 191. I'm not struggling with my eat-style program, but the pounds are really resisting eviction. Ha! I'll take them to court, if I have to! hahahaha
With Summer's arrival (hot weather and high humidity), my meals have gotten very simple. I have developed a smoothie I really like (low-fat choco milk, ice, vanilla greek yogurt, tablsp. PB2, Chia Seeds, 4 tblsp. old-fashioned oats, a banana, and about 6-7 white choco chips). I will have that about mid-morning or just before the noon hour. Sometimes, I will I have a glass of juice early in the a.m. I drink water during the day, and dinner is either a simple tuna sandwich of low-fat mayo with tuna straight from the can on Sandwich Thins or I buy a rotisserie chicken and put bbq sauce on sandwich thins with slices from the chicken, along with a cup of low-fat choco milk. Sometimes I will have about 1/2 cup of low fat cottage cheese with it, too. Snacks are my seafood bites, watermelon, a low calorie pudding cup, or a Weight Watchers salted caramel brownie. Not all at once - just my single choices for a snack.
I know I'm going to need to go to the gym soon to get on the stationary bike or treadmill, but the heat and finances at the moment are preventing it. I think when the finances become better, I'll go. The heat won't be a problem as I need to take a cab to the fitness center, and the center has a/c.Carol Hhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08341715515054534228noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4185892098218333543.post-1911995568172291922017-05-16T13:24:00.000-04:002017-05-16T13:24:11.226-04:00New ReportDown to 192! I'll be doing a weigh-in later today. Oh well, they were short and sweet.
My metabolism has kicked in again....albeit, slowly. I am one pound away from my first goal (200), but that was last week. I am heading out later to do another weigh-in, so I am hoping it shows I've reached my first goal.
If I have, then I am only 3 pounds away from my half-way point.
People keep asking me how I am doing it.
All I can say is that I've cut out soda, red meat, and sweets, an occasional light beer or two (sometimes, a mimosa or two)....okay, we're talking, maybe, once a month or more here on the alcohol. Essentially, only when we go out or attend an event (which isn't often). I, also, portion control, and do little things like go for a low-cal or fat free product at the grocery store. I look for meal recipes for dinner that are 300-400 calories or under (remember to portion control, too.).
I wake up in the morning and have a glass of 100% (no sugar added) juice. About 11 am to noon, I have a small (not the large tub) Chiboni Vanilla Yogurt peppered with Chia seeds. about 2-3 pm, I have a tuna sandwich (usually on a burger bun spread with low-cal mayo, and solid white tuna on top. Simple, as I'm usually busy doing things in the afternoon.
Dinner is a low-cal or portioned controlled main dish (usually involves turkey, pork, or chicken) with some kind of vegie (unless the recipe includes the vegie).
Some of the main dishes include chicken taco's with homemade taco seasoning, or turkey burgers seasoned with Todd Wilbur's Fuddrucker's Copycat Seasoning recipe (See Top Secret website).
Sometimes, I will make a Richard Simmon's recipe (love that Baja Lasgna), or a pork loin roll with vegie's. I always have a glass of low-fat Chocolate milk with dinner, and take one vitamin pill and 2 B12's. We live in an area wher the noseeum's are horrible, and I get bit up. The B12's help keep the bites to a minimum.
So, that's all I'm doing. I think the chia seeds help a lot, too. Love those things!Carol Hhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08341715515054534228noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4185892098218333543.post-51804159207668239032017-02-13T12:29:00.001-05:002017-02-13T12:30:06.659-05:00Lost Again and Have a Cold
Well, the title says it all. I lost, again, the two pounds I gained, and am sick with a very bad cold, too.

Carol Hhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08341715515054534228noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4185892098218333543.post-26958321272742328392017-01-30T12:24:00.001-05:002017-01-30T12:25:20.408-05:00A Pause of LossWell, I hit that "pause" that I talked about in a previous post. I went down to 203, but came back up to 205 - and stayed there. No up....no down.
So.....I did something that I haven't done for a number of years - I walked. Almost a mile. From the marina to the grocery store, taking three rest breaks and stopping at the Post Office to mail some bills and the fitness center to check it out and inquire about cost. I did take a cab home, though, because I had groceries. And I didn't eat a thing - no stopping for snacks, etc. Not bad for someone who four years ago, when we first arrived in the harbor, was walking with a cane.
Plan on doing it again as long as the cool weather holds out.
I planned on the fitness center when I reached that level of losing weight where it tends to stall. So, sometime this week I'll get there and use the stationary bike, and whatever else they have for shrinking hips and stomach.
And I'm wearing a pair of old pants right now that I had to paperclip to keep them from falling down. hahahahaCarol Hhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08341715515054534228noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4185892098218333543.post-6097159251678456362017-01-09T12:42:00.001-05:002017-01-09T12:42:36.671-05:00Made It Thru The HolidaysWell, I survived the holiday season....and I'm down to 203.Carol Hhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08341715515054534228noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4185892098218333543.post-1013129013322449812016-12-14T15:15:00.002-05:002016-12-14T15:15:54.769-05:00Christmas coming up, Can I still maintain?I went to the store yesterday and did a weigh-in. I lost two more pounds and am now at 206. Just six pounds to my first goal, and 9 pounds to my half-way goal.
We've had problems with our refrigeration system on the boat, so I had to put off my morning summer porridge. I have a glass of 100% pure juice in the a.m. or I make up a smoothie of Lo-fat choco milk (8 oz), vanilla yogurt (Chobani), a banana, chia seeds and a little ice. Sometimes, I add a teaspoon of pure maple syrup for a little more flavor.
I'm more busy now than before I started my eat-style program, so many days are no lunch days. Sometimes I will bring with me the fat-free flavored tuna packs with the crackers. If I'm at home, I will grab a burger bun with low cal mayo and a small pop-top can of tuna and make a sandwich.
Dinner is portioned controlled for chicken, pork, turkey meals. The turkey is usually ground turkey with a seasoning I got from Todd Wilbur's website.
Snacks are my low-fat Lemon Meringue pudding cups, watermelon chunks, or the imitation crab bites. I also drink at least a bottle of water a day. About twice a month, Keith and I go out to the bar/restaurant for drinks and appetizers or dinner. I do portion control than, eating only half the dinner or a couple three of the appetizers, and sticking to light beer - no more than two - and I drink slowly. I usually skip lunch when I know we're going out.
So, even with all that, I'm still losing.
So far, so good. Carol Hhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08341715515054534228noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4185892098218333543.post-43753510757205266162016-11-28T14:59:00.001-05:002016-11-28T14:59:33.076-05:00Thanksgiving Weigh-InOn the Saturday after Thanksgiving, I did a weigh-in. Success! I lost another pound and am now at 208.
For Thanksgiving Dinner, I had a slice of Turkey, green beans and about 1/2 cup of brown rice with 100% fruit juice to drink. NO PIE and NO DRESSING (my two favorites). I conquered!Carol Hhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08341715515054534228noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4185892098218333543.post-46038927577275144592016-11-05T13:02:00.001-04:002016-11-05T13:02:06.134-04:00Slow But SteadySo, I did my monthly weigh-in and blood pressure check a week ago today. I lost another 4 lbs. and the blood pressure is still good. That makes it only 14 more pounds to lose to get to my half-way point, and 39 total lost pounds to date. Cool!

Carol Hhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08341715515054534228noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4185892098218333543.post-62729966395683860572016-10-02T14:30:00.001-04:002016-10-02T14:30:28.459-04:00Update #4I went and did my monthly weigh-in and blood pressure check.
Yippeee.....I lost the 2 lbs. I accidentally gained, plus another 3 lbs. I am now down to 214!
My blood pressure is now registering as normal. Since I started my eat-style program, it had been registering as "cautious". In other words, running a bit high.
I will get back to other, more thought provoking posts as soon as things return to normal in my daily life. Things are a bit up and down right now.Carol Hhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08341715515054534228noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4185892098218333543.post-39714785310588350562016-09-14T16:05:00.001-04:002016-09-14T16:05:19.128-04:00Update #3So, less than two weeks after I last weighed in at 217, I was at the store and decided to do it again. I usually wait for a month between weigh-ins, but I figured 'what the heck'.
Oh no! 219! How did I manage to gain 2 pounds?
Well, I'll tell you.
Between the weigh-ins, DH decided he wanted my Beans and Ham soup for dinner. Of course, that takes ham. So, we had two days of ham dinners before I made the beans and ham soup. The soup lasted 3 nights.
I didn't know what the calorie count was for the soup (or the ham, for that matter), and having a very stressful week, I was not doing portion control. Now, you know where the 2 pounds came from.
When I finally got on the internet, I tried to find a recipe online that was closest to my recipe, and that also included a calorie count.
The closest I could find - 370 calories in 1 1/2 cups!
Yikes!
I know I had about 3 times that in my bowl - maybe even more.
That's the end of beans and ham for dinner.
At least, for a while.
And I'll be doing much better in portion control when I do make it again.
Was all this a disappointment?
Of course it was.
Did I fall off my program?
No. I don't see it that way. I see it as a human trait to falter once in a while.
Can I recover from it?
Yes. I can.
Will I be stupid next time?
Hope not.Carol Hhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08341715515054534228noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4185892098218333543.post-87964603983287700472016-08-27T11:37:00.000-04:002016-08-27T11:37:08.619-04:00Update #2Even though things are up in the air for me right now, I still am trying to find the time to track and report my progress. So, here's an update.
Another 3 lbs gone. I am now down to 217 from 249. In four months, averaging 8 lbs a month, I have lost 32 lbs.
I have calculated reaching my goal weight by next May. That's not set, just a calculation.
Of course, the weather is helping with this a lot. It is so hot and humid, that I only seem to want my crab bites and watermelon.......and lots and lots of water.
If I am still here when the weather cools, I will be heading to the local fitness center twice a week - to start.Carol Hhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08341715515054534228noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4185892098218333543.post-57621573284094618022016-08-05T13:27:00.000-04:002016-08-05T13:27:45.259-04:00Just a QuickieI wanted to get this recorded - down to 221 lbs. Seven more pounds gone. 76 more to goal weight. Getting there.Carol Hhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08341715515054534228noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4185892098218333543.post-46643228059557645742016-07-22T12:46:00.001-04:002016-07-22T12:56:44.856-04:00And Summer Goes OnWell, surgery was successful for Keith's right eye. We are in the last week before payday in the surgical financial crunch. Not really sure how "crunchy" it will get for his left eye, which needs to be done within 30 days after the left eye. But, at least he isn't almost totally blind now.
With the financial crunch, I've tried to stay on my eat-style program as much as possible. We've, basically, been buying whatever we can afford at the grocery store. I've been putting off my summer porridge, but will be making them again this afternoon (if the yogurt is still good in the icebox, that is).
The heat and humidity of summer has kept me on the boat, but on the plus side, with the a/c working again, my heat rash is almost gone. So, I haven't been to the store to weigh in.
Because we had accumulated enough reward points at the local pizza joint for a free pizza (this was before I started this program), to save money we used the points for a free pizza.
One thing I discovered - pizza is something I'm going to have to stay away from while losing weight, because I can't eat just one slice. Oh no, I ate FOUR! Not good. As a result, I'm sure I lost points on pound loss.
We've been able to keep dinners almost normal. I've fixed a lot of chicken and ground turkey meals.
Speaking of ground turkey, last night I didn't know what to do with the gr. turkey I had, so I got on the internet and found a seasoning for turkey burgers. It was delicious. It was a copycat seasoning for Fuddrucker Burgers from Todd Wilbur, and it was great (although I'm cutting back a bit next time on the black pepper and cayenne pepper. Some people replace the cayenne with cumin). Here is a link to the website.

http://www.topsecretrecipes.com/Fuddruckers-Hamburger-Seasoning-Copycat-Recipe.html

As there are other copycat recipes that are not so low-cal or healthy on this site, I do recommend browsing carefully, but do browse. There are a few that have been modified for low-cal. Not all links will give a complete recipe. You'll have to purchase his cookbooks for them.
But this seasoning I used on the turkey burgers made the burgers very flavorful, and not bland at all. I mixed the ground turkey with Worcestershire sauce and a little A1 Original with a mix of onion and celery bits first, then added the seasoning to the burger while pan frying. I'm not sure what the total calorie count is for these burgers, but it's gotta be better than beef. In fact, they were so good, I might not go back to beef.
